Habitat Hands On Training And Education
About the Event:
This event will include the construction of one Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) foundation, and one above grade ICF home. The training will demonstrate how high-performance building systems can help deliver durable, energy-efficient homes for Habitat partner families. ICF supplier, BuildBlock, will host on-site education and training for builders as the structures are built from the ground up. Designers, builders, construction professionals and community members interested in learning more about ICF construction are welcome to participate. Participants will experience a live construction environment, engage with industry professionals, and see firsthand how ICF contributes to stronger, safer and more efficient homes. Each day a lunch and learn training will be made available for participants or those not available to volunteer during the construction process. The registration link is available below.

How to Register: Each attendee of your team MUST register for the Build Day
1. Attendees can click here to go to the Habitat NFV’s Volunteer Portal, VolunteerUP. VolunteerUP is how we distribute our schedule, collect registrations, and communicate all important information to participants.
2. If you are new to our affiliate, click “Create an Account” and complete the volunteer profile before registering for the build day. While setting up your profile select “BuildBlock Training” as your team / group. (**It is imperative attendees provide a working email address in their profile, as this is our main contact in case of cancellations, location changes, and general information.)
– If any attendee has already registered on VolunteerUP, they can access the construction calendar by logging in. Our Volunteer Manager can reset your password if needed.
3. After you have logged in and signed our liability waiver, you will see our construction calendar. To register for a build day on the construction calendar, locate the dates along the left side for “Nov. 2 – Nov. 5, 2026” at your build site “Green Freedom, Aurora (1921 Jericho Rd)”. The day is labeled “BuildBlock Training”.
To register for this build day do the following:
a. Click on the “BuildBlock Training” shift and complete steps c & d. If the shift does not appear for you, you most likely forgot to select your team. Go into your profile to make the edit and it should fix this issue.
b. There will also be a Lunch & Learn hosted at the Show Home on site. If you are interested in attending, select the “Lunch & Learn” shift and then complete steps c & d. Note that the Lunch & Learn has limited spots available and requires a separate registration even if you are attending the training that day.
c. Click on the box under “Select Shift” to the left of your team name’s slot. This does not register you yet; it only indicates which slot you would like to volunteer under.
d. To finalize your registration, click on the “Sign Up” icon box at the top. A confirmation page will appear, and you can click on “Send E-mail” to send yourself a confirmation e-mail. If you need to edit your registration, you can do so under the “My Portal” tab.
